When it comes to senior pictures, my favorite sessions are the ones where we get to capture who someone truly is, not just what they look like.

That was exactly the heart behind Isabel’s senior session at Whitetail Woods in Farmington, MN.

I’ve known Isabel’s family through our church, so it was extra special getting the chance to spend this time with her and celebrate this exciting season of her life. Isabel is such a unique young woman. She is a chess master, plays the flute in her high school band, and is also involved with Girl Scouts. Her interests are such a fun reflection of who she is, and I loved that she wanted to bring those pieces of herself into her senior portraits.

From the beginning, this session was anything but traditional, and I loved every minute of it.

Her first outfit completely transformed the feel of the session. Isabel chose a beautiful Renaissance-inspired dress and brought along her little lap dog, creating the sweetest old-world portrait feel. Add in her adorable parasol-style umbrella, and it truly looked like she stepped right out of a painting.

It was such a fun reminder that senior pictures don’t have to fit into a certain mold. They can be creative, meaningful, and completely personalized.

Of course, we had to include one of Isabel’s biggest passions , chess.

She brought along a huge wooden chess queen piece, and it was such a perfect way to showcase something that has been such an important part of who she is. She even wore the cutest black-and-white checkered overall outfit with little queen earrings. The details were absolutely adorable and made the images feel so authentically Isabel.

For her final outfit at Whitetail Woods, we captured another side of her personality with a beautiful floral top and pastel lavender bike shorts. She also brought her Girl Scout vest and some cookies, which made for such a fun and personal addition to her session.

One of my favorite parts of being a senior photographer is getting to learn about the person in front of my camera. I loved hearing Isabel talk about the things she enjoys, the activities she’s passionate about, and the experiences that have shaped her.

Senior pictures aren’t just about a pretty location or the perfect pose. They’re about remembering this moment in life , the hobbies, the passions, the little details, and the things that make you completely yourself.

Isabel’s session was creative, joyful, and full of personality, just like her.
